Where does the time go? It’s not like I’ve been able to lose hours in the garden, although the weather has been better of late i.e it’s NOT been raining, and the ground is less saturated. But oh, the bitter winds! (Meteorological, not anatomical - hush with the giggling at the back, please.) The garden is waking up but it’s going to be another week or so until The Great Garden Wrangle 2024 is able to begin in earnest.
I’ve been in reflective mode the last ten days or so - thinking about past happenings, impacts and outcomes, and how I’ve been affected for better, for worse, for goodness’ sake. This is all very boring for you, dear Reader(s), which is why I’ve not blogged for a few days. You’d all be muttering, ‘Go and see a counsellor, for chuff’s sake.’ And quite right, too! But at an average of £55 an hour (I’ve checked) I would rather sort myself out and spend the money on something nice, like a new throw for the sofa or an attractive pendant of a cat from Etsy, which is arriving in the next couple of days as a little present to me for still being in one piece after all the soul-searching shizzle.
Other stuff has been happening. I’m currently enjoying a bout of sciatica but am facing it head on with false cheerfulness - ‘Away with thee, you bastard trapped nerve - get thee back in line IMMEDIATELY!’ - lots of exercise in the form of Pilates, stretching and walking, and a hot water bottle in permanent situ down the back of my jeans, which looks highly attractive as you can imagine, like a random extra buttock. I’ve reached the stage of ‘Oooh, it’s gone - hurrah!’ to ‘Ouch, chuffing puffle-pants, no it hasn’t!’ But there is definite improvement.
I’ve started a course of hawthorn supplements as a cardio tonic in order to settle my heart arrhythmia. I can’t be doing with all that random thumping and fluttering which tends to be triggered if I have a hot flush. I’ve done lots of research and hawthorn is the way to go.
What else? Ah yes, I have given green tea a try! I kept reading about its health benefits so picked up a packet from Aldi and now have a cup or two a day. I find it quite palatable, a bit like drinking black tea only less edgy on the teeth. I still prefer ginger tea, which is my absolute favourite, but yup, green tea is a ticketty boo addition to the tea ‘n’ coffee cupboard.
At last we had a final bill from British Telecom who had the cheek to add a late payment charge even though they never told us the final bill had been issued! Okay, so it was only £15 to wave cheerio to them forever, but it should have been only £7.50. They are a bunch of sneaky, conniving charlatans and if they ever send one of those irritating customer satisfaction forms I shall have great pleasure in filling it for them. However, what I DO need to remind myself is that the new internet/phone provider is charging less than half of what BT was charging for exactly the same service AND the new provider sent us, this VERY morning, an Amazon gift card to the value of £95 as a new customer welcome gift. We could have chosen a gift card for Tesco, Sainsbury or Marks and Spencer’s instead but we don’t shop in Tesco or Sainsbugs, and I’ve still got loads of gift cards for M&S leftover from Christmas, the sum of which will probably keep me in underpants for the rest of my life. Amazon it was then. It’s all swings and roundabouts in the world of telecoms. Shouldn’t be, but it is.
Heather is taking me out for Mothers’ Day on Sunday, which I am looking forward to enormously. I’ve booked myself into a ‘Learn to Crochet’ class at Hobbycraft for the end of March in the hope they’ll show me what I’m doing wrong when I turn at the end of a row and I’ll be able to make something other than triangles. I mean, there’s only so much room in a girl’s life for crocheted bunting and itsy-bitsy woolly bikinis.
Here is Nell, sitting at the kitchen island yesterday waiting for Andy to cook his bacon sandwich. She got a nibble of it, but says it really wasn’t enough.
