Mad Puppy Mud Daddy

Nell is a very absorbent puppy dog. Water, mud, peanut butter…if it’s damp and/or sticky her fur will suck it up and be very reluctant to relinquish it. Of course, this means Nell is spending a lot of time following her daily walk in the wet ‘n’ windy weather that is Winter 23/24 being hosed down in the bath so she doesn’t become a walking clump of mud. Mud might be good for pigs and hippos, but not for a dog that has the coat of a fluffy teddy bear.

Her pretty much daily rinse in the bath means that the bathroom is also having a daily bath because, quite frankly, bath times with Nell can look and sound like a scene from ‘The Exorcist.’ She loves water, being part spaniel, but generally she loves it mostly on her terms when it is in the form of her water bowl or a puddle or coming from the end of a hosepipe. And she’ll jump into the bath quite happily, but when the task of ‘proper rinsing’ starts, her patience can be as thin as sheet of filo pastry. Unless food is involved, of course. Food will bribe her into doing pretty much anything.

If the bathroom was downstairs (I long for a downstairs bathroom) the whole shenanigans might be less fraught. But the bathroom isn’t, therefore it is. Thus, in an attempt to keep as much mess outside as possible and to save me wasting my life cleaning bathrooms, we made a purchase of one of these…

It’s called, bizarrely, a ‘Mud Daddy’ and it works by pumping up the pressure in the container so the water sprays out of the attachment under its own steam. No plugs, no electricity, no high explosive gases required. You can fill it with warm water and shampoo and the water will stay warm for two hours. It comes in sizes of 5 litre and 8 litre. We bought the 8 litre one, on account of Nell’s absorbency and her inability to stand still when water is spraying from a hose.

The results thus far have been, well, okay. If I was giving this product a review, I’d say 7.5 out of 10. I think the problem is that the water doesn’t come out with enough force to penetrate Nell’s fur, and that Nell is too interested in it being a jolly fun toy. I don’t think she’s keen on the brush on the end of the hose, either. Basically, to get her properly clean, you can’t beat warm water coming from a high pressured shower attachment in a bath. Ah well.

However, it IS marvellous at cleaning off Andy’s walking boots! And, to be honest, they can leave just as much mess in the house as Nellibobs.

I’m sure, as Nell calms down with age (ahahahahahahaha…ha!), the Mud Daddy will prove more effective. The trouble is, all the photos on the website show it being used on dogs who are either very patient, very old, at the point of nervous exhaustion, or being bribed by an out of camera shot sausage. We shall persevere, though. And pray for a lengthy period of dry weather. Preferably lasting until Springtime.

Sorry, couldn’t help laughing out loud, probably because I’m close to a nervous breakdown by the bare (?) mention or thought of giving our dog a bath! I love that the devise is more effective on Andy than Nell!

Well now, Andy did a bit of minor engineering on the Mud Daddy and it is now far more efficient in cleaning Nell. Apparently, some part of it had twizzled loose, but it is now how it should be. Nell was successfully washed with it after her walk yesterday. Result!!

The Frosted Dawn Enigma

The decorators are in at the moment. Stairs and landing. Given my previous history of 'Hoo Ha Occurring on Stairs ' - reference the Trapped Under the Sofa Incident and the Foot Wedged Between Bookcase and Stair Rise Debacle - I thought it wise to pay for professionals to decorate the stairs and landing rather than get myself in a mix with ladder and plank combinations and achieve the Magic Three of staircase accidents. The decorators are a father and son combo who go by the  names of Craig and David. This automatically causes me entertainment. 'Came in on a Monday, prepped, filled and undercoated, back on Thursday, first top coating, by Friday finishing touches...' Okay, not as frisky or well-scanned as the original song, but you get where I'm coming from. Anyway, before they started the job Craig asked what colour I wanted for the walls. 'Same colour as the downstairs walls, please,' said I. 'Dulux Frosted Dawn.' And then white for all the woodw

Day 1 - Decisions Are Made Beyond the Author's Control.

‘Well,’ I say, looking at the expectant faces gathered around the huge table in the Great Dining Hall of Much Malarkey Manor, ‘I didn’t think it was going to happen this year, but it is!’ There is a sharp intake of breath as everyone wonders of what I speak. I’ve been muttering about all sorts recently, and I’m not talking liquorice here either.   ‘The Much Malarkey Manor Annual and Traditional Christmas Story!’ I say, and wait for the expulsed air of relief to settle before I continue. ‘I thought we had done it all. I thought we had covered every Christmas story there was. I’ve been wracking my brains for a full two months now, trying to come up with something we haven’t done before and then it hit me! We haven’t done a version of one of the Great Christmas Films of Yore!’ ‘Your what?’ says Mrs Slocombe, who is more interested in the selection of pastries I have brought to this breakfast meeting, because that is what one does, isn’t it? Eat pastries at breakfast mee

Launched!

I was going to wait until tomorrow to launch the ‘Hallo Tarot!’ website, what with tomorrow being 1st July and, therefore, a nice tidy date for a beginning. But this afternoon, I became involved in a flurry of final tidy loose ends activity, and thus ended up cracking the metaphorical bottle of champagne against the ship of which I am Captain and whoosh! Off she went into the World Wide Web!  You can find it here : www.hallotarot.co.uk The blog is moving there, too, so unless things go horribly wrong, this will be the last entry here.  I hope to see you on the other side then! Let me know what you think.
