His Lordship, Bambino Bobble Wilson

Bambino Bobble Wilson has been going through a period of poor health. The above photo is of him scooched up on my lap. I am trying to type on my laptop, he is resting over my arm and making it go dead. But he doesn’t care about these things, and besides, he hasn’t been well.

It started with a bout of cystitis which knocked his appetite for six. He started refusing food and in a short period of time lost a considerable amount of weight. He went into hospital, twice, and had a raft of tests which showed he had developed a type of liver disease and that his immune system was below par. And that, unless his appetite improved, well, things would only deteriorate further. And you can guess the rest.

It turns out that Bambino is a very bad patient which surprised me for such a cheerful and confident cat. He was angry and disagreeable during his hospital appointments, and trying to wrestle medication down him was impossible. Literally, impossible. Spitting, fighting, wrestling, and nine times out of ten, spat out pills and much foaming at the mouth. Him, not us. We were reaching the point where decisions were being made about his future. The alternative way to deal with his non-eating was to force feed. All I could think of were the historical stories and evidence from the Suffragette cause. Force feeding a cat is an aggressive treatment and we both knew it is something Bambino would not tolerate.

But never say never. Keep trying to encourage his appetite back, that was the thing. We set about trying a variety of brands of cat food. Dry food, wet food, mousses, pâtés, gravies, soups. He just didn’t want to know about manufactured cat foods. At best, he would lick the gravies and jellies off the wet foods. And this is a cat who has eaten cat kibble everyday, no problem, for the last six and a half years.

On the other hand, tinned tuna was wolfed down. He has always liked tinned tuna but it’s always been a rare treat on account of its mercury content. Not an everyday solution. But at least he was eating and ans far as I am concerned any food is better than no food.

And then I tried him with hard boiled egg. Yes, that went down well BUT it had to be warm. And then I tried white fish. Again, a big hit, as long as it was warm. Perhaps warming up some of the tinned cat food would tempt him? Tried that - and I’d say a 60% success rate. I cooked up some beef mince for him. Again, he ate it all when it was warm, turned his nose up when cold. So I’ve bought more beef mince which I have divided into smaller portions to be cooked and served warm.

I bought him some cat treat biscuits from Aldi because they had added taurine, which is a vital amino acid for cats. Loved those. Junk food. But at least he was eating and getting some taurine.

He has regained some weight. He is more inclined to play now. He has returned to walking across the keyboard when I am working and pissing me off by doing so. He is being a bit bitey still, which is not good, but he is better than he was a month ago. He’s got a personal chef and butler service now, you see. Who wouldn’t perk up a bit with that, eh?

Awww, pour Bambino! Glad he is eating. Don’t worry about nutrition right now. He is just getting the treatment he believes he is entitled too.

I agree, KJ. I would rather he eat anything at the moment. He’s started picking at his usual kibble again which is positive, but any food is better than no food as far as I’m concerned.

The Frosted Dawn Enigma

The decorators are in at the moment. Stairs and landing. Given my previous history of 'Hoo Ha Occurring on Stairs ' - reference the Trapped Under the Sofa Incident and the Foot Wedged Between Bookcase and Stair Rise Debacle - I thought it wise to pay for professionals to decorate the stairs and landing rather than get myself in a mix with ladder and plank combinations and achieve the Magic Three of staircase accidents. The decorators are a father and son combo who go by the  names of Craig and David. This automatically causes me entertainment. 'Came in on a Monday, prepped, filled and undercoated, back on Thursday, first top coating, by Friday finishing touches...' Okay, not as frisky or well-scanned as the original song, but you get where I'm coming from. Anyway, before they started the job Craig asked what colour I wanted for the walls. 'Same colour as the downstairs walls, please,' said I. 'Dulux Frosted Dawn.' And then white for all the woodw

Day 1 - Decisions Are Made Beyond the Author's Control.

‘Well,’ I say, looking at the expectant faces gathered around the huge table in the Great Dining Hall of Much Malarkey Manor, ‘I didn’t think it was going to happen this year, but it is!’ There is a sharp intake of breath as everyone wonders of what I speak. I’ve been muttering about all sorts recently, and I’m not talking liquorice here either.   ‘The Much Malarkey Manor Annual and Traditional Christmas Story!’ I say, and wait for the expulsed air of relief to settle before I continue. ‘I thought we had done it all. I thought we had covered every Christmas story there was. I’ve been wracking my brains for a full two months now, trying to come up with something we haven’t done before and then it hit me! We haven’t done a version of one of the Great Christmas Films of Yore!’ ‘Your what?’ says Mrs Slocombe, who is more interested in the selection of pastries I have brought to this breakfast meeting, because that is what one does, isn’t it? Eat pastries at breakfast mee

Launched!

I was going to wait until tomorrow to launch the ‘Hallo Tarot!’ website, what with tomorrow being 1st July and, therefore, a nice tidy date for a beginning. But this afternoon, I became involved in a flurry of final tidy loose ends activity, and thus ended up cracking the metaphorical bottle of champagne against the ship of which I am Captain and whoosh! Off she went into the World Wide Web!  You can find it here : www.hallotarot.co.uk The blog is moving there, too, so unless things go horribly wrong, this will be the last entry here.  I hope to see you on the other side then! Let me know what you think.
