Apparently it’s a ‘thing’ that as one grows older, one loses a bit of height. I’m having none of that. I do a lot of stretching in my daily routine to prevent shrinkage - keep the old spine upright and flexible, you know?
However, the illusion of feeling shorter isn’t helped AT ALL when your granddaughters rock up for a holiday and the eldest can look you in the eye without standing on a chair and it turns out that, compared with my 5’ 6”, she is only an inch behind at 5’ 5”. How on Earth did THAT happen?? I fully expect that the next time we meet, she’ll be looking down on me. Literally.
We started the holiday with a trip to the cinema to see ‘The Rise of Gru’, the latest in the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise. We do like a minion or two. The plot was wholly implausible, of course, but entertaining enough if somewhat lacking in the finesse of the previous films. We then had lunch in the Harvester which is next to the cinema, and I am pleased to say that they have upped their game considerably since the last time we visited. They have also upped their prices, but I guess they have a lot of financial catching up to do since the world went mad and shut down. We don’t eat out nearly as much as we used to because of the increased costs. A meal out is a once in a while treat, as it used to be when I was a child.
Youngest granddaughter (still shorter than me by a goodly amount) has announced she wants to go on a shopping trip to ‘that place we went to last time we were here, the place with the arch.’ I have no idea of what she speaks despite trying to pinpoint the location by squeezing more details from her. I’ve said we’ll have a day in Shrewsbury, and one in Trentham. It’s probably one or other of those she’s remembering. We are also planning a pasta making session and a couple of picnics. And maybe some trampolining. Not me though. I fear trampolining might compact my vertebrae and render me two inches shorter.
A lovely friend sent Andy and I some ‘just because’ flowers! Here they are:
Aren’t they beautiful? And for no other reason than ‘just because’ we are lovely people! They arrived on an afternoon when I was feeling a bit down about silly things, and they and the sentiment with which they arrived cheered me up enormously.
