It’s been the hottest day of the year thus far, and what do I do? I do gardening, that’s what I do! I’ve been at work the last three days so needed to get out there and play catch up. I was very good - wore my sun hat and quaffed gallons of water. At one point I took time out to lay on the grass under a tree and watch the birds swooping back and forth overhead. Then on with work. There’s lots of watering to do now the veg are a-go-go. A bit of weeding, too. And, most importantly, planting out my over-abundance of flowers into their final display pots and tubs.
I’d hoped the patio would have been completed by now, but the beginning of the project has been delayed so it is not, which means the newly planted flowers find themselves squished up on the area in front of the patio doors.
I’m hoping for a completed new patio within the next two weeks so I can spread the pots around a bit. But until then, at least I won’t have to spend much time walking around watering. Stand and swish, that’s all I’ll need to do, with a couple of water butts close to hand.
I’ve put a couple of troughs at the other end of the garden, too, just to spread the flower power love. Next year I think I ought to consider a bit of proper planning before going all gung-ho with the seed planting. But this year I shall enjoy the colourful, random colour explosion for what it is. Which is organised chaos!I can confirm that all five swallow eggs have hatched! Yesterday, I snuck into the laundry to raid the freezer and five little fuzzy headed, wide beaky faces were peeking over the edge of the nest. I can also report that our feline house guest, Harris, is feeling more at home…
Here he is with Bambino. I found them asleep together in my study when I came home from work the other day. Altogether now….aaaaahhhhhhh! I need to sort out my study. It’s original purpose has slowly changed in the last few months and now I find it not quite fitting my developing needs. A bit of a sort out and rearrange is called for, I think.
Yesterday at work we collected snails…
Here they are, in a bucket just before their release into a hedge a long way away from our vegetable garden. I’m making the picture into a competition for our volunteer workers. Guess how many snails are in the bucket and closest guess wins a prize. This could be interesting because numeracy is a bit of a challenge to some of our guys. But they can have a go anyway. Just guess a number. Any number.
