‘Shall we try introducing Sidney to Edith?’ said His Lordship Malarkey yesterday, just before lunchtime.
Well, it had to be done at some point, didn’t it? Both bunnies had been neutered and recovered well, the sun was out, I would rather serve one communal breakfast in the morning than faff around dishing up two, so off we went, up the garden to chez Edith’s, trying not to think of all the disastrous things that could happen like, for example, a massive red in tooth and claw bunny kick off.
Andy had already made preparations for the move first thing in the morning by placing some of Sidney’s old bedding material in Edith’s home in a ‘let’s mix scents’ kind of way. Personally, as a female of the species, I’m not sure how enticing having a bloke’s used bedding dumped in my environs would be by way of introduction. It’d be like, ‘Here’s some stinky laundry that needs doing before we meet, thanks very much’ and I’m pretty sure I would not like THAT kind of introduction at all. Call me old fashioned, but what happened to turning up with a nice bunch of flowers and maybe some posh chocolates?
Anyway, Andy took Sidney into Edith’s palace and put him down. Sidney went absolutely bonkers with excitement at all the new exciting stuff in the Palace, like all the space, the different levels, the tunnels, the extra hidey holes…
…Edith maintained a dignified demeanour, casually eating her dandelion leaves and sticky weed.
Sidney boinged around like a child on artificial additives…
…Edith, I swear, glanced at him and rolled her eyes.
Sidney approached Edith with all the sophistication of a slapstick clown…
…Edith casually moved away…
And thus it continued, as Sidney followed Edith around trying to say, ‘Hi, I’m Sidney!’ and Edith staying a few bounces ahead saying, ‘Look, just back off whilst I’m eating, will you?’
It was, dear reader, all rather sweet, calm and lovely. No kicking, no fighting, no biting, no growling. He was clearly chuffed to be living in a new house with a lovely lady companion, she was clearly at peace with the whole situation.
And here they are, first thing this morning, all cosied up and happy. I’ve been to see them several times today and they look like they’ve been living together forever. I’ve seen them sharing breakfast, I’ve seen her get him in a headlock so she can wash his ears. I’ve seen them stretched out in the sun together, and also happy to sit in separate areas doing their own thing.
All is well in bunny world, then. Every one say, ‘Aaaaahhhhh….’
