Crafting for the PDSA

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I have no idea how I managed to fit a full-time job previously into my life and stay sane. And there’s the rub, eh? Perhaps I wasn’t sane. Perhaps since leaving full time employment I am experiencing sanity for the first time in years?! And I think now how glad I am that I shall not be returning to the chalkface for a new school year in three weeks’ time because the list of activities I am planning just keeps expanding.

The last week, then, has been taken up with The Visit of the Granddaughters. A poor excuse, I know, for neglecting my blogging activities, but by the time we’d run them ragged each day and done the bath, story, bedtime routine I was too knackered to engage a single brain cell in writing, let alone another for it to rub against and produce something vaguely entertaining. After a week of visits to Warwick Castle and the Shugborough Estate, Trentham Gardens, boat rides, cinema x 2, arts and crafts, camping, barbecuing, picnics, cake making, arguing the toss about who gets to sit in the front of the car and exactly how much fizzy drink they are allowed at home etc, His Lordship Malarkey and I returned the Curly Girlies to their parents on Saturday via the glamorous rendez-vous of the Oxford Services on the M40. We arrived home at 12.30 and after a of toasted sandwiches, I fell asleep on the sofa for nearly 2 hours and I NEVER sleep during the day! Yesterday was spent as Life of a Laundry Lady and Vacuuming Specialist, but in the afternoon I felt sufficiently returned to normal to make a prototype key ring...

...for in three weeks’ time, Andy’s hospital is having an Open Day and I thought I would make a contribution towards the fun ‘n’ games by making some ❤️ PDSA key rings. Animals, of course, but ones that would be treated by the PDSA, so predominantly dogs, cats, rabbits. Not giraffes, rhinos or llamas. Obvs.  I’m not sure I could create a guinea pig without making it look like a potato, ditto a hamster. I could do mice, I suppose. Remember my knitted mice?

These could be dangled from a key ring, n’est ce pas? Anyway, it’s going to be Craft Production Line chez Damson Cottage for the next 4 days before Heather and her betrothed, Ollie, arrive on Friday for a few days until 21st, and then three more Craft Panic Days until friend Jean arrives in her camper van on 25th for a few days and then a Massive Craft Push until 1st September which is The Open Day at PDSA Stoke when hopefully my goods will FLY off the...er....stall/ shelf/ display thingy, and a few quid shall be raised for the amazing work the PDSA do for our beloved pets.

I shall endeavour to return to regular blogging, too. When I don’t write, I have discovered, I feel very miserable and out of sorts.

Forward, then! To the World of Making Stuff!

Oh, the mice - you introduced me to that pattern. I made several that year and occasionally I recognise one on someone's Christmas tree! I think I've slowed down since leaving full time work, I don't get as much done as before but that's good, I am not rushing everything. The key-rings look great, I hope they sell well.

The Frosted Dawn Enigma

The decorators are in at the moment. Stairs and landing. Given my previous history of 'Hoo Ha Occurring on Stairs ' - reference the Trapped Under the Sofa Incident and the Foot Wedged Between Bookcase and Stair Rise Debacle - I thought it wise to pay for professionals to decorate the stairs and landing rather than get myself in a mix with ladder and plank combinations and achieve the Magic Three of staircase accidents. The decorators are a father and son combo who go by the  names of Craig and David. This automatically causes me entertainment. 'Came in on a Monday, prepped, filled and undercoated, back on Thursday, first top coating, by Friday finishing touches...' Okay, not as frisky or well-scanned as the original song, but you get where I'm coming from. Anyway, before they started the job Craig asked what colour I wanted for the walls. 'Same colour as the downstairs walls, please,' said I. 'Dulux Frosted Dawn.' And then white for all the woodw

Day 1 - Decisions Are Made Beyond the Author's Control.

‘Well,’ I say, looking at the expectant faces gathered around the huge table in the Great Dining Hall of Much Malarkey Manor, ‘I didn’t think it was going to happen this year, but it is!’ There is a sharp intake of breath as everyone wonders of what I speak. I’ve been muttering about all sorts recently, and I’m not talking liquorice here either.   ‘The Much Malarkey Manor Annual and Traditional Christmas Story!’ I say, and wait for the expulsed air of relief to settle before I continue. ‘I thought we had done it all. I thought we had covered every Christmas story there was. I’ve been wracking my brains for a full two months now, trying to come up with something we haven’t done before and then it hit me! We haven’t done a version of one of the Great Christmas Films of Yore!’ ‘Your what?’ says Mrs Slocombe, who is more interested in the selection of pastries I have brought to this breakfast meeting, because that is what one does, isn’t it? Eat pastries at breakfast mee

Launched!

I was going to wait until tomorrow to launch the ‘Hallo Tarot!’ website, what with tomorrow being 1st July and, therefore, a nice tidy date for a beginning. But this afternoon, I became involved in a flurry of final tidy loose ends activity, and thus ended up cracking the metaphorical bottle of champagne against the ship of which I am Captain and whoosh! Off she went into the World Wide Web!  You can find it here : www.hallotarot.co.uk The blog is moving there, too, so unless things go horribly wrong, this will be the last entry here.  I hope to see you on the other side then! Let me know what you think.
